In 17th century, the valley was inhabited by lumberjacks and coalmen from the Tyrol region, the Black Forest area, Switzerland and Italy. Mittlach was quoted for the 1st time in documents from 18th century. In local dialect, Mittlach means “small river”.
Our cottage is an old coalman farm from 19th century. At that time, people did what they could to be autonomous all year long and usually had a cow and a pig, livestock on site.
The farm was bought by our family in 1962. Tremendous transformations were made until 2010: what was originally an haystack has turned into a cozy cottage for 6 guests. That feeling of happiness we cherish is palpable.
